How We Found Our Purpose — And Why It’s So Important To Us

A winding road through a stylized landscape of lush, black and white fruits and vegetables.

We like to say that one of the best things about what we do at Just Drive Media is that we get to do work we’re proud of, with people who energize us. Even so, we realized an important thing early on: as much as we love working alongside our incredible teammates, supporting clients we care about, and putting our talents and skills to work, we all wanted something more. We needed to establish a purpose beyond our day to day work.

We started with an ad-hoc approach to giving back, targeting organizations and causes our team felt passionate about. We provided support for displaced families after disaster, and raised money for organizations fighting cancer, suicide, homelessness, and food insecurity.

More recently, that’s become much more.

In 2022, after some soul searching and a deep dive into the power of 10X thinking (more on that to come), we set a new mission - to feed 10 million people during the next 10 years.

In the U.S., more than 44 million people - including 13 million children - struggle with food insecurity, a challenge with far-reaching implications. This issue not only threatens well being and development, particularly among children, but also profoundly impacts learning and educational outcomes. Beyond its immediate effects, food insecurity contributes to the perpetuation of social inequity. It was a clear call to action for all of us.

To bring us closer to our goal, we’ve hosted “meals for miles” competitions for Hunger Action Month and participated in the Rise & Stride Race to End Hunger to help feed kids in school. To involve clients and friends, we host an annual virtual holiday party featuring global cooking sessions. For every participant, we make a donation to a food bank of their choice. We forged partnerships with both Feeding America and the Flow Research Collective to double down on our impact.

So far, we've donated more than 1 million meals, and we’re just getting started.

We still have room to support the philanthropic and advocacy missions our team members are passionate about, but this bold, clear goal helped focus our efforts and increase the potential impact we can have.

Now we like to say that each morning, as our team members settle into their chairs or stand at their desks, they aren’t just starting another day. In that moment, whether we’re about to design a beautiful image, draft inspiring copy, create a sharp strategy, or find the story in a sea of data, we’re doing much more than supporting our clients or building a great place to work.

Every action we take at JDM feeds a current of positive change that flows into communities and lives well beyond our immediate view. It’s our goal to become an unstoppable force of goodwill with a shared commitment to a more hopeful world.

FAQ

I want to help! How can I - or my company - get involved?

Amazing! We'd love to have your support. Here are a few ideas...

  • Consider teaming up with us. We're always on the lookout for businesses and folks eager to make a difference. Whether it's co-hosting an event or brainstorming new fundraising ideas, there's plenty of room for collaboration.
  • Making a direct contribution to one of our partner organizations, like Feeding America, helps fuel our mission. Let us know your intent and we'll help find a great time to make it happen (during one of our events, for example). Every donation gets us closer to reaching those 10 million meals.
  • Just talking about our mission can have a big impact. Share our story, or the broader challenge of food insecurity, with your network. Awareness is a powerful tool in rallying more support.

If any of this sparks an interest, we'd love to hear from you - reach out to us at info@justdrivemedia.com. Together, we can turn this vision into a reality!

What's on your radar for 2024?
Great question! We typically do a few big things, like a "meals for miles" competition during Hunger Action Month in September, and our annual holiday party fundraiser + cooking class at the end of the year. But that definitely won't be all ... keep an eye on our social channels for what we're up to, or reach out anytime.
